The most difficult part in drumming is regular hard practice. Many drummers find it really difficult to practice regularly for long periods of time. This makes them not practicing at all. First of all, you should practice several drum fills that are your favorite. Playing the same drum fills again and again will greatly improve your skills. Beware though: playing the same beats over and over may sometimes seem unpleasant. So you need to be patient and persistent. Stay focused until you are done with this part of your drumming session.
Secondly, you should work on memorizing your favorite song. Unfortunately, not many drummers try to do this which is surprising. Memorizing your favorite song is important due to several reasons. It is a good way to become a good time keeper. It also gives you a better understanding of where to put fills in your own songs. And, finally, it is simply a lot of fun.
At the third place, you should practice with your metronome. This is not much fun usually and therefore you will need to stay as focused as possible. Make sure you do this every time you practice drumming even though you may not be very fond of doing this job. Play your bass drum to the metronome which is set to sixty beats per minute. As soon as you feel comfortable with that add your high hat. You should add 3 beats of high hat per one bass drum beat. Afterwards switch to 4 and 6 beats per one bass drum beat. As soon as you feel comfortable with this increase the metronome to eighty and then one hundred beats per minute. Try to do the same thing.
